Upstander Scholarship

Purpose

The Armenian National Committee of America – Glendale Chapter (ANCA – Glendale) is a grassroots public affairs organization serving to educate, motivate and activate the Armenian American Community in Glendale. The ANCA Glendale has established the Upstander Scholarship in order to recognize students who have witnessed injustices occur, and as upstanding citizens, taken steps to address those injustices and prevent them from happening in the future.

Who Is An Upstander?

An Upstander has a strong sense of social responsibility, who speaks up when someone is being bullied or harassed. They stand up for what is right and do their best to support someone who is being disadvantaged. An Upstander takes the responsibility to initiate positive change in his or community and beyond.

Eligibility

  • Be a current GUSD graduating high school senior planning to attend an accredited college, university, vocational or training school.
  • Possess good academic standing.

Award

  • Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to qualified applicants.

Requirements

  • Complete the application form
  • Respond to personal statement question
  • Provide an unofficial transcript
  • Provide a letter of recommendation from a teacher, counselor, adviser or coach
  • If awarded provide proof of enrollment/acceptance letter

Deadline

The deadline for the 2018/2019 academic year has passed. Successful applicants will be notified by May 31st, 2018.

Student Activist Scholarship

Purpose

The purpose of the ANCA Glendale Student Activist scholarship is to recognize and honor an outstanding student who has a deep commitment to the betterment of the community in the City of Glendale and a proven ability to transform this commitment into effective action through grassroots organizing, policy advocacy, and social media campaigns. The award may be in recognition of a particular action or a long-term dedication to positive change in the City of Glendale with the aforementioned in mind. 

The scholarship is intended to pay for tuition and education expenses for the recipient’s attendance to college, and will be sent directly to the college’s office of financial aid. The scholarship will be awarded upon the recipients transfer to a 4 year university. 

Eligibility

  • Full-time enrolled student at the Glendale Community College
  • Possess good academic standing.

Award

  • $500 scholarships will be awarded to a qualified applicant.
