  GLENDALE, CA – After careful consideration and meetings organized with various members of the Glendale City Council and city staff, the Armenian National Committee of America – Glendale Chapter on Friday announced its endorsement of the Glendale Quality of Life & Essential Services Protection Measure, also known as Measure S. Measure S was unanimously voted by Glendale City Council on July 17, 2018 to be on the November 6 ballot. If approved, Measure S would enact a 0.75% local sales tax, which would generate approximately $30 million each year in dedicated, local, City-administered funds. Glendale CA – On Tuesday, June 12 Glendale City Council passed a resolution renaming the two blocks of Maryland Avenue between Wilson Avenue and Harvard Street to Artsakh Avenue. Mayor Sinanyan, Councilmembers Najarian, Gharpetian and Agajanian voted for, while Councilmember Devine abstained. The Council also passed a resolution authorizing limited reimbursements of specified costs associated with the street name change, and appropriated $131,000 to address the fiscal impact. On Tuesday, June 4th the Armenian National Committee of America – Glendale (ANCA Glendale) awarded two local high school students the ANCA Glendale “Tsolag Hovsepian” Upstander Scholarship. Founded in partnership with the Glendale Unified School District, with this scholarship ANCA Glendale aims to recognize outstanding students who have demonstrated a strong sense of social responsibility, commitment to justice, and taken the initiative to stand up for an individual or group of people who are being disadvantaged. Glendale CA – On Saturday March 31st, 2018 dozens of high school and college students gathered at the Glendale Youth Center for a recruitment and information session with the Glendale Fire and Police Departments. Glendale Unified School District Board of Education member Mr. Shant Sahakian, GPD Interim Chief of Police Carl Povilaitis and Victoria Dochoghlian representing the office of Assemblymember Laura Friedman were also in attendance.
