As we learn that there are four confirmed cases of COVID-19 within the City of Glendale, the Armenian National Committee of America – Glendale Chapter (ANCA Glendale) commits to utilize its resources to serve the needs of the residents of Glendale during this unsettling crisis. The City of Glendale has already taken steps to curb the pandemic, but we believe more must be done. On Monday, March 16th, Glendale City Council convened in a special meeting to discuss the recent outbreak of COVID-19 within the borders of the city. Eight City Council Candidates Present Their Vision For Glendale To A Capacity Audience At Glendale Youth Center

On January 15th, the Armenian National Committee of America – Glendale Chapter (ANCA Glendale) held their Community Candidate Forum, a moderated public town hall where all eight Glendale City Council candidates participated. With over 200 residents of Glendale in attendance, each candidate provided their insight on issues that residents are concerned about.  Participants included incumbents Paula Devine and Vartan Gharpetian as well as candidates Greg Astorian, Dan Brotman, Ardy Kassakhian and Leonard Manoukian. Asbarez: Armenian Council on Aging Building Vandalized with Racist Graffiti

Incident Being Treated as a Hate Crime Members of the Armenian American Council of Aging on Thursday discovered anti-Armenian graffiti sprayed on the organization’s building on 407 E Colorado Street in Glendale. The incident apparently took place overnight. “Death to Armenians. Trump say [sic] leave now,” read the graffiti on the building wall. Glendale Police Department told Asbarez that it is classifying the incident as a hate crime. “When we have something that is so blatant we usually classify it as a hate crime,” said Sergeant Dan Suttles, a public information officer at Glendale Police Department. “We are looking into multiple graffiti markings in the area, with similar writing,” explained Suttles. “There have been derogatory writings about every race, sex and religion [in the vicinity]….

Statement in response to the recent incident involving the Mayor and a Glendale City Councilmember at a Royal Canyon Property Owners Association event

GLENDALE, CA (September 16, 2019) – The Armenian National Committee of America – Glendale Chapter (ANCA-Glendale) is gravely concerned about an incident that occurred at a Royal Canyon Property Owners Association (RCPOA) event on September 8, 2019 where City of Glendale Mayor Ara Najarian and City Councilmember Vartan Gharpetian were asked to leave RCPOA’s Summer Social event citing it was a “non-political” and “members-only” event. The overall poor treatment of two councilmembers of Armenian descent appears to be disrespectful at best and perhaps discriminatory at its worst.
