GUSD Board Schedules Vote for a New Superintendent

GLENDALE, CA – GUSD Board of Education has scheduled a vote on a contract for the next GUSD
Superintendent of Schools. The Board is expected to take action on affirming Dr. Vivian Ekchian as the
District’s next Superintendent at their upcoming meeting on Tuesday, May 21.
Dr. Ekchian currently serves as Deputy Superintendent of the Los Angeles Unified School District. She
has dedicated her career to serving students, educators, and communities in a variety of roles, including
teacher assistant, classroom teacher, principal, director of instruction, chief of staff to the superintendent,
chief human resources officer, chief labor negotiator, local district superintendent, associate
superintendent, and interim superintendent.
“We had a strong field of highly qualified candidates and we are confident that Dr. Ekchian is the right
person to lead GUSD,” said Board President Jennifer Freemon. “She is a lifelong educator with extensive
experience running a large, diverse district.”
If approved on Tuesday, Dr. Ekchian’s contract would begin on July 1, 2019.
