ANCA GLENDALE LAUNCHES SCHOLARSHIP FOR GUSD STUDENTS

Glendale CA – The Armenian National Committee of America – Glendale (ANCA Glendale) has established the 2018 ANCA Glendale Upstander Scholarship in order to recognize students who have witnessed injustices occur, and as upstanding citizens, taken steps to address those injustices and prevent them from happening in the future. Two $500 scholarships will be awarded to qualified students who have demonstrated a strong sense of social responsibility, commitment to justice and taken the initiative to stand up for an individual or group of people who are being disadvantaged. “ANCA Glendale is proud to announce this partnership with the Glendale Unified School District. ANCA Glendale Supports Renaming a Downtown Street to Artsakh Street

Glendale, CA – On Tuesday, March 13, 2018 the Glendale City Council unanimously voted to initiate the process of renaming a public right of way in honor of the Republic of Artsakh. Among the several alternatives provided by the city staff, was the option to rename the stretch of Maryland Avenue between Harvard and Wilson Street. YASMIN K. BEERS APPOINTED GLENDALE CITY MANAGER

Glendale CA – On Tuesday, February 20th 2018, Yasmin K. Beers was appointed Glendale City Manager by Glendale City Council. Mrs. Beers moved to the United States from Iran when she was eight years old. She began her career in Glendale in 1987 working in the Library Department while she attended Hoover High School. She later went on to receive a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from the California State University, Northridge, followed by a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Woodbury University. Mrs. Beers has been serving the City of Glendale in different capacities for the past 31 years.
