Zareh Sinanyan Vacates City Council Seat to Accept Position in Armenian Government

Glendale, CA – Glendale City Councilmember Zareh Sinanyan on Friday submitted a letter resigning his position on Glendale City Council effective immediately. He confirmed that he will be accepting a high-ranking position in the government of the Republic of Armenia. Ekchian becomes the first female and first Armenian to lead the GUSD

GLENDALE, CA — The Board of Education on Tuesday voted 5-0 to select Vivian Ekchian as the new Superintendent of the Glendale Unified School District making her the first female and first Armenian leader of the 106-year-old district. A 34-year veteran of the Los Angeles Unified School Distrsict, Ekchian is currently the Deputy Superintendent of the LAUSD and until last year served as its interim superintendent. She has dedicated her career to serving students, educators, and communities in a variety of roles, including teacher assistant, classroom teacher, principal, director of instruction, chief of staff to the superintendent, chief human resources officer, chief labor negotiator, local district superintendent, associate superintendent, and interim superintendent. Glendale – ANCA-Glendale hosted a community Blood Drive on Sunday, March 31. The Blood Drive took place at Glendale Youth Center and was dedicated to the 1.5 million Armenians that lost their lives during the Armenian Genocide. Every year, The ANCA-Glendale in partnership with the American Red Cross and several affiliated community-based organizations organize an annual blood drive to give blood to those in need and to commemorate the 1.5 million lives lost during the Armenian Genocide in 1915. According to the American Red Cross, less than 2 to 3 percent of the eligible donors in Southern California donate blood.
