ANCA-Glendale Hosts Welcoming for GUSD Superintendent Roberson

GLENDALE — The Armenian National Committee of America, Glendale Chapter hosted a welcoming for the newly appointed Glendale Unified School District Superintendent Winfred Roberson on October 12. The event provided the community the access and opportunity to meet and converse with the Superintendent who will be tasked with managing the district’s 29 schools which serve over 25,000 students.

The event was held in effort to further build upon the positive relationship with the community and school district. Roberson stated “Glendale USD believes in building meaningful partnerships with community supporters who share goodwill towards our great schools and students. I look forward to exploring ways that GUSD and the ANCA Glendale Chapter can build upon the excellence that defines Glendale schools.”

Patil Derderian, a law student and ANCA Glendale Board member, remarked “ANCA Glendale have collaborated with one another on multiple events and programs, such as the Camp Darfur exhibit at Glendale High School, the implementation of the teacher training programs, and the recognition of April 24 as a holiday. Our school system has bilingual classes, has gone above and beyond in ensuring humanitarian education to its students, and has educated the youth on diversity, with all of these elements combing to make an even better school system.”

In his closing statements, ANCA Glendale Executive Director Gev Iskajyan thanked all those in attendance, including Glendale city’s elected officials, GUSD Board of Education members, Glendale Community College Trustees and President, along with various community organizations who all contribute to the betterment of our community.

The ANCA-Glendale advocates for the social, economic, cultural, and political rights of the city’s Armenian American community and promotes increased civic participation at the grassroots and public policy levels.
