Ekchian becomes the first female and first Armenian to lead the GUSD

GLENDALE, CA — The Board of Education on Tuesday voted 5-0 to select Vivian Ekchian as the new Superintendent of the Glendale Unified School District making her the first female and first Armenian leader of the 106-year-old district. A 34-year veteran of the Los Angeles Unified School Distrsict, Ekchian is currently the Deputy Superintendent of the LAUSD and until last year served as its interim superintendent. She has dedicated her career to serving students, educators, and communities in a variety of roles, including teacher assistant, classroom teacher, principal, director of instruction, chief of staff to the superintendent, chief human resources officer, chief labor negotiator, local district superintendent, associate superintendent, and interim superintendent. GLENDALE, CA – GUSD Board of Education has scheduled a vote on a contract for the next GUSD Superintendent of Schools. The Board is expected to take action on affirming Dr. Vivian Ekchian as the District’s next Superintendent at their upcoming meeting on Tuesday, May 21. GUSD High Schools Rank Among Nation’s Best by U.S. News & World Report

Glendale, CA – All four GUSD comprehensive high schools rank among the nation’s best once again according to the U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 Best High Schools ranking. All four schools – Clark Magnet, Crescenta Valley, Hoover, and Glendale High – rank in the top 25% of high schools nationally, with Clark Magnet and Crescenta Valley High ranking in the top 3%.
